State Standards
The Alaska State Standards represent a statewide effort
to describe what students in the state should know and be able to
do as a result of their public school experience. The activities
developed for Eight Stars of Gold: The Story of Alaska's Flag
are based on specific Alaska State Standards found in the standards
booklets and available on-line to view or download at the Alaska
Department of Education and Early Development website.
Also available through the Department of Education
and Early Development is Frameworks,
a valuable resource for designing lessons and assessments that help
educators apply the standards in classrooms.
We encourage teachers to regularly include social
studies and civics education in classroom instruction while focusing
on specific standards in any discipline. For more information we
recommend the Lt.
Governor's Office. This site includes the Democracy Project
and a focus on statewide activities for Alaska Day.
